Current approaches to analgesia
Chronic pain is difficult to treat and for many patients, pain control is sub-optimal.
The Pain in Europe Survey3, found that:
- 19% of adult Europeans suffer moderate to severe chronic pain.
- 40% of patients received inadequate pain management (of 4,830 patients interviewed).
However, opioids can provide significant pain relief and may be effective in managing a broad range of severe chronic pain, caused for example by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or crushed vertebrae.
