The research journey

• The study consisted of 4 waves of qualitative interviews between April 2008 and May 2009, to track patients’ pain response and treatment, and any changes that had occurred.
• Between the 4 waves, patients participated in engagement activities to provide additional insight into their pain journey, such as completing patient diaries, where people could express themselves through words and pictures, capturing moments in their lives.
• Comparisons between baseline data and subsequent wave results showed how the impact of pain and pain management changes over the course of a year.
